If you are invited to a sundae party, and have a large variety of toppings to add on it, would you take only the ice cream, or maybe only some chocolate syrup on it, and no more? You would enjoy your sundae, certainly, but, don't you think it would be so much better if you add more toppings? Imagine now that at that same sundae party, you get to the toppings table, and you find ketchup, mustard, salt, pepper, oregano, relish, diced onions, pepperoni, shredded cheese, BBQ sauce, ranch... I like almost all those things, and I would totally add them to my hot dogs, pizza, salad, soup, and other foods... but ON A SUNDAE?!?! I don't know about you, but I don't think I would! Those are just not good toppings for a sundae, and I don't think that they would make of an ice cream a delicious sundae.
Every week we have that kind of party, but I would call it a Sunday party. For LDS members, Sundays are supposed to be the best day of the week. It's the day when we partake of the sacrament and when we renew our baptismal covenants. It's a day to listen uplifting lessons, to see our brothers and sisters from our wards, to be strengthened by talks and testimonies. It's a day that we are taught to keep holy and to sanctify it, a day to remember our Savior Jesus Christ.

I know that Heavenly Father loves us dearly and wants us to be happy, and that's why he set apart a day every week to rest of hot dogs, pizza, salads, of all the other activities, and to enjoy our sundae and its toppings. He knows that we need that day to gain strength and to feel closer to him, and I know, because I've experienced it in my own life, that when we keep that day holy, it brings joy not only to our Sundays, but to every day of our week.
I want to thank Berenice Montalvo Begin for the idea. You gave a lesson about this at a Hispanic's FHE in Montreal a couple of weeks after you came from your mission, you brought the ice cream and show us and example of it, and it got stuck in my head forever! I loved the idea, and now, about 5 years later, I'm taking it to do this blog! Thank you! You are an amazing example to me, and I've learned so much from you those years that we've been in the YSA together! Gracias amiga! :)
